Helping Pittsburgh Families Raise Calmer, More Confident Kids

Specialized support for children with ADHD, anxiety, Selective Mutism, and challenging behaviors. Based in the South Hills of Pittsburgh (with telehealth services available in 43 states)

You might be in the right place if:

  • Your child has been diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, or Selective Mutism (or you suspect they have one of those)

  • You’ve tried all of the strategies (behavior charts, timers, stickers, taking away privileges) but nothing seems to work.

  • You’ve been told your child will “grow out of it” but your gut says otherwise

  • Your pediatrician or another professional has recommended enrolling in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

  • You want real, practical parenting tools

I’ve always known that [my child’s] “Hard” would someday be his super power, but Dr. Vaughan’s support helped us unlock that beautiful potential so much earlier than I think we otherwise would have. He still has his moments, of course, but we work so well as a family now and feel much more equipped to help him self-regulate and navigate when those moments arise.

Every family is different. Here’s how we can help yours:

We offer:

  • Small parent groups that teach effective strategies for managing ADHD, anxiety, and related challenges.

  • Parent retreats for parents of school age children. Spend time with other parents while you recharge during a few (child-free) hours, all with activities and learning opportunities led by a licensed child psychologist.

  • Anxiety treatment for children with high levels of anxiety (social anxiety, generalized anxiety, and phobias), including Selective Mutism. Anxiety treatment may include individual sessions with a therapist, parent groups,

  • ADHD treatment, including Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)— a proven approach that strengthens your relationship while reducing challenging behaviors.

All individual family sessions are currently offered via secure telehealth, so you can learn and practice new skills right from home.

What makes our approach unique?

We believe in using the best evidence-based therapeutic strategies available. And when it comes to young children, the research is clear: in order to make lasting changes, caregivers, not just children, need skills and knowledge to manage tough situations when they arise.

How we teach caregivers skills:

  • Live coaching from a therapist during sessions to practice specific therapy skills with your child

  • Parenting groups to discuss and practice skills, learn about child mental health, and create a plan for supporting your child

  • Modeling of skills from an experienced therapist

Why Child Behavior Management Pittsburgh exists:

After completing my training as a psychologist, my family returned to Pittsburgh because this is home, but also because I wanted to bring all of the amazing parent training skills I learned in my post graduate work to Pittsburgh parents. At our practice, we do this in an intentional way that is not always feasible at a large institution. This means getting to know you and your family, and taking parenting strategies that are backed by research and individualizing it to your specific family’s needs.

The families who come to CBMP often show up at a vulnerable time: the behaviors at home or school are too overwhelming, traditional “talk” therapy is not working, or they just don’t know who else to turn to. Every day I am inspired by the courage of these parents and children to be vulnerable enough to ask for help and keep going despite setbacks. We want parents and children who seek our services leave us feeling equipped to make changes, confident in their ability to manage challenging moments, and hopeful that change is possible. If you are struggling with your child’s behavior, know that you are not alone, and I do hope you will reach out to us!

A note about insurance…

Here at CBMP, we are a private pay practice. Here's why that aligns with our values:

Insurance-based practices are sometimes required to see as many families per week as possible to cover overhead. That model works for some families, but we knew we wanted something different for our kids and their loved ones. We want you to feel like your family is more than just a number, and keeping caseloads down allows us to take extra time with your family, coordinate care with your child’s school or other providers when possible, and provide us with the flexibility to offer different modalities of care (e.g. school visits, home visits, parent groups, social skills groups, etc.)

As a private pay practice, we can tailor treatment to your child specifically, and move at the pace that works for your family.

Our full-pay fee is clinician dependent, but is often around $250 per session. A sliding scale is available for families who qualify. We also provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many PPO plans reimburse 50–80% of out-of-network costs. We recommend calling your insurance to ask about your out-of-network benefits before your first session.

Want to estimate how much your insurance will reimburse out of network?

Check out our handy tool below! Make sure to confirm directly with your insurance as well! We also offer financial aid on top of what insurance will reimburse for families who qualify.
