Parent training is recommended by experts as part of a “gold standard” approach to treating ADHD
Parent behavior training like this group is widely recommended for improving outcomes not only for children with ADHD—but for families as a whole.
AND, it’s backed by research.
A recent peer-reviewed study on the DOCS program, published in Evidence-Based Practice in Child and Adolescent Mental Health (Hinojosa et al., 2025), found meaningful, real-world results for families:
About half of participating families met their treatment goals through the parent group alone and did not need to continue on to individual therapy for their child
Families who did continue to individual therapy required fewer sessions to reach their goals
What this means for parents:
Learning effective strategies early can reduce the intensity, duration, and burden of treatment while helping families feel more confident and supported sooner.
